How to hire a personal chef for your home.
Start with the dinner you want to make easier. A week of family meals, a birthday party and an anniversary dinner each need a different kind of plan.
Weekly meal prep or a chef for an evening?
For everyday dinners, in-home meal prep puts several meals in your fridge in one visit. BiteTalk offers ready-to-cook dinners you finish yourself and fully cooked dinners you reheat. Each dinner serves four, and you choose from the monthly menu.
For a party or private dinner, the food is part of the occasion. Share the number of guests, the dishes you have in mind and whether you prefer family-style service, plated courses or a hands-on cooking experience. Scott will confirm whether the kitchen, timing and staffing fit the event.
Understand what your quote includes.
Meal prep uses a service price per visit: two dinners start at $150 ready to cook or $225 fully cooked; three dinners are $210 or $300. Ingredients are billed separately at cost. Compare the packages and extras, including optional grocery shopping and custom-menu planning.
Private dinners and parties are priced per person, based on the menu, guest count and service style. Ask for both the per-person amount and the full event total. A booking minimum may mean a dinner for two does not cost the same per person as a larger gathering.
Your written proposal should specify ingredient costs, shopping, service, cleanup, travel, applicable tax, staffing or rentals, the minimum booking amount and payment terms. Do not assume that every chef’s per-person price includes the same things.
Share these details when you inquire.
- Your city, preferred date and any scheduling flexibility.
- Household size for meal prep, or expected guest count for an event.
- Favorite dishes, preferred budget per person or total budget, and service style.
- Allergies, dietary needs and whether separate meals are required.
- Kitchen size, oven and stovetop access, fridge space, parking and any venue restrictions.
Ask about experience, food safety and the menu.
Look at food the chef actually makes and ask how it will be served in your home. Scott’s cooking gallery shows enhanced stills from his live cooking videos, with links to watch the original cooking. Scott holds a ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification, and BiteTalk LLC carries $2 million in aggregate general liability coverage.
Discuss allergies before selecting a menu. Suitable dishes and simple omissions may be straightforward; recipe changes or separate batches need advance planning. Your kitchen and ingredients must be reviewed before any accommodation is confirmed.
Prepare for the visit.
Before booking, confirm kitchen access, counter space, cookware, ingredient shopping and containers. For meal prep, make room in the fridge for the finished dinners. Scott provides labels, cooking or reheating instructions and kitchen cleanup with the listed meal-prep packages.
